Algebra 3 Syllabus

 

Course Objectives: This course is a continuation of algebraic and geometric concepts developed in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry.  Students will review solving equations, inequalities, and graphing functions.  The students will continue their foundation of functions, use symbol and manipulation to simplify and solve, connect algebra and geometry, study conic sections, work different methods for solving system of equations, matrices, quadratic, square root, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions.  Students will continue to build on this foundation as they expand their understanding through other mathematical experiences. State Assessment objectives will be reviewed.

 

Assignments and Grading Scales.

·         Exams - 100 points each

·         Quiz – 20 points

·         Homework - 10 points each

·         Projects – Points are assigned based on the assignment.

 

Each exam and quiz will consist of short answer questions that test student knowledge of the material previously assigned. The homework assignments will be no more than 20 problems with most assignments being 10 problems.

 

Grading Scale for Exams: 89.5-100 = A; 79.5-89.4 = B; 69.5-79.4 = C; 59.5-69.4 = D; 0-59.4 = F.

 

Make-Ups: Exams may only be made up under the following condition: the reason for missing the exam is an absents or a school-sanctioned activity. All make-up exams will be given on the day the student returns. Students will be given the same amount of time to complete the exam as every other student. For make-up homework students will be given the same amount of time to complete the assignment.

 

Deadlines: Deadlines are serious. Work turned in after a deadline will be penalized. It is your responsibility to have all work submitted on time. In the case that work will be turned in late due to reasons outside of your control please let me know and I will try a work out a solution. If work is not turn in on the day it is due the student will be given ICU until it is finished.
