The mission of the Danville School District and the Central Office is to provide support and leadership for the district’s schools to insure that appropriate instructional programs are taught in a safe environment allowing our students to become educated, healthy, and productive citizens.

Priority 1: Administrative Support
    Goal: To provide services and support in time, professional development, materials, supplies and funding to individual school personnel as they work to provide educational services to individual students in improving student achievement.
Priority 2: Safe and Drug-free schools
    Goal: All Danville public school students will be provided a safe learning environment so that they may reach their maximum achievement potential in mathematics and literacy.
Priority 3: Wellness
    Goal: The Danville School District will provide support for students in making Healthy Lifestyle Choices by implementing systems to aid in decreasing the average BMI on routine annual student screening and increasing collaboration between all segments of the school community in support of positive lifestyle choices.
Priority 4: Special Education
    Goal: The Danville School District will reduce the relative proportion of caucasian students to hispanic students receiving special education services to within one standard deviation of the state average by the end of the 2008-09 school year.

Priority 1: The Danville School District will provide administrative support in terms of allotment and time and financial support for teachers in the efforts of the district to ensure that every child achieves proficiency in mathematics and literacy, to reduce disproportionality of students receiving special education services.

The Danville School District will provide administrative support for the improvement of math and literacy scores through the use of a literacy coach, math coach, and outside consultants, meeting and exceeding state requirement. The District will continue to offer supplemental services through Title I to help with the improvement of math and literacy scores. Additional Compass Learning site licenses will be purchased to allow for additional lab time. (NOTE: This funding was moved to other actions on February 20, 2009 due to the fact that no parents requested supplemental educational services for their children at S. C. Tucker Elementary for the 2008-09 school year and, therefore, no supplemental care providers' services were purchased.)

Title 1 funds will be used to purchase the OdysseyWare educational web-based software. OdysseyWare will be used both in the ALE classroom and for remediation of regular classroom students. Professional development will be provided on the OdysseyWare software.

      Priority 2: All students in the Danville public schools will show that they perceive school as a safe place in which to learn and achieve academically. There will be adequate yearly progress of students scoring below proficient on the ACTAAP mathematics and literacy state exams.
      Supporting Data:
      1. Police records indicate that 1 fatality and 2 pedestrain/bike accidents involving children and automobiles have occurred in the past four years.
      2. A 2005 Teacher Survey for safe and drug free schools indicated that 79% of the high school faculty considers alcohol use and bullying as risk factors in school safety as well as 89% consider fights and drugs as risk factors in school safety. A 2008 teacher survey of safe and drug-free schools indicated that it is important to ensure safe schools by providing training in gang and violence awareness to faculty, students, and parents.
      3. 2005-06 police records indicate 2 reports of theft at the Danville High School Campus
      4. In the 2006-07 school year, there were 13 incidences of student assault, 3 incidences of bullying; no student expulsions and no incidences of drug/tobacco/alcohol use or possession. In the 2005-06 school year, there were 14 incidences of student assault, 1 incident of a student in possession of a weapon (knife), 5 incidences of drug use/possession by a student, 1 of alcohol use/possession, 1 of tobacco use/possession,and 1 student expulsion. In the 2004-05 school year, there were 17 student assault incidences, 3 incidences of a student in possession of a weapon (knife), 1 disciplinary action based upon gang-related activity, 3 incidences of bullying, 1 drug and 1 tobacco use/possession incidences, zero alcohol incidences and zero student expulsions.
      GoalAll Danville public school students will be provided a safe learning environment so that they may reach their maximum achievement potential in mathematics and literacy.
      BenchmarkAll students in the Danville public schools will show that they perceive school as a safe place in which to learn and achieve academically. There will be adequate yearly progress of students scoring below proficient on the ACTAAP mathematics and literacy state exams. Students not riding buses to school will have a safe zone of passage, including adult supervision of major street crossings. The precentage of parents participating in school activities and volunteerism will increase. The percentage of Danville School students participating in drug (and alcohol) use, bullying or fighting will be reduced.
      Intervention: Danville public schools will hire a district school resource officer (SRO) to work with students; there will be an emphasis on working with at-risk students and students in subpopulation groups so that all students are provided a safe and drug-free environment to provide opportunities for optimal achievement in mathematics and literacy.

      The Danville Public School District will employ a resource officer to be visible on the campus to interact with students in the halls, cafeteria, and on school grounds.         The Danville School District has developed District wellness policies in collaboration with the district Nutrition and Physical Activity Committee. Policies have been approved by the district school board. Policies include the five (5) federal requirements: Goals for nutrition education, physical activity and other school-based activities, Nutrition guidelines, Guidelines for reimburseable school meals, a Plan for measuring implementation of the local wellness policy, and Community involvement. In 2006-07, of the identified special education students in the Danville School District, 48.8% were Caucasian, 47.2% were hispanic, less than 1% African American and 0% Native American students in special education. In 2005-06, of the identified special education students in the Danville School District, 52.7% were Caucasian, 41.1% hispanic, 3.6% African American and less than 1% each: Asian and Native American students in special education.
        2. In 2007-08 the total enrollment breakdown of the combined student population of Danville School District was 43% caucasian, 52% hispanic, 2% African American and 3% Asian Pacific. In 2006-07, the total enrollment breakdown of the combined student population of Danville School District was 45% caucasian, 48% hispanic, 2% African American and 3% Asian Pacific.
