          S. C. Tucker Elementary students met annual achievement goals (known as AYP—adequate yearly progress) set forth by federal and state law as measured by the Arkansas Benchmark Exam in mathematics and literacy.  This resulted in the school being classified as an “Achieving School.”  All S. C. Tucker Elementary tested student groups met state achievement goals in both math and literacy in 2009-10.    The grades 3, 4, and 5 subpopulation groups and their proficient-or-higher numbers (and percentages) for 2009-10 were as follows:

Mathematics:  Combined population 173 (82%), Hispanic 89 (81.7%), Economically Disadvantaged 128 (78.5%), Caucasian 73 (81.1%) and Limited English Proficient 71 (82.6%).  Literacy:  Combined population 159 (75.4%), Hispanic 76 (69.7%), Economically Disadvantaged 115 (70.6%), Caucasian 72 (80%) and Limited English Proficient 58 (67.4%).

Danville Middle School met all Arkansas student achievement goals (AYP) in mathematics and literacy of the Arkansas Benchmark Exams for all tested student groups as well in 2009-10 and is classified as an “Achieving School.”  The Danville Middle School (grades 6, 7 and 8) subpopulation groups and their proficient-or-higher numbers (and percentages) for 2009-10 were as follows:

Mathematics:  Combined population 145 (81.5%), Hispanic 59 (73.8%), Economically Disadvantaged 97 (77%), Caucasian 76 (86.4%) and Limited English Proficient 37 (71.2%).  Literacy:  Combined population 123 (69.9%), Hispanic 48 (60%), Economically Disadvantaged 80 (64%), Caucasian 69 (80.2%) and Limited English Proficient30 (57.7%).

At Danville High School, the combined student population group as well as the economically disadvantaged subpopulation group, failed to meet achievement goals (AYP) on the End of Course Exams for Algebra I and Geometry.  As a result, Danville High school has been identified by the Arkansas Department of Education as being in “Whole-school Improvement, Year 1.”  The Danville High School (grades 9, 10, and 11) subpopulation groups and their proficient-or-higher numbers (and percentages) for 2009-10 were as follows:

Mathematics:  Combined population 84 (64.1%), Hispanic 33 (55%), Economically Disadvantaged 54 (56.8%), Caucasian 43 (74.1%) and Limited English Proficient 13 (43.3%).  Literacy:  Combined population 32 (61.5%), Hispanic 11 (55%), Economically Disadvantaged 16 (50%), Caucasian 20 (71.4%) and Limited English Proficient 2 were tested, none of whom scored proficient or higher.

It is the goal of the Danville High School administration, staff and students to meet AYP in 2011 and, therefore, teachers are using student individual scores and interim formative assessment information to provide immediate interventions to students who are struggling with specific areas of achievement.  One such effort is the provision of after-school tutoring to students and plans for summer school in 2011.  The high school is in compliance with state requirements in offering the 38 required courses and offers additional courses above that required minimum.

Based on the most recent Arkansas School Report Card (2008-09 data), the average ACT composite score was 19.8, with Math ACT scores at 19.2, English at 18.6, Reading at 20.1, and Science at 18.9.   The number of students taking AP courses was 10 and the number taking AP exams was 32.  One student earned a 3 on the AP exam (a score of 3, 4 or 5 is required to count as college credit).  For the 2008-09 school year, the attendance rate was 96.3%, dropout rate was 1%, grade inflation rate was 29.7%, and the college remediation rate was 67.5% and the graduation rate was 95.8%.  Upon the completion of the 2008-09 school year, there were a total of  ten students retained in grades 1-8, with three in first grade (3%), one in second grade (1%), none in grades three and four, one retained in grade five (1%), two in grade six (3%), one in grade seven (1%) and one in grade eight (1%).
